Parents, staff, and campers are all asked to read and adhere to the Derech Eretz Statement of Mutual Respect.
The practice of Derech Eretz, which means “The Conduct of the Land,” guides our expectations and practices for how our campers, staff, parents/guardians, and community members treat one another. As members of the Camp Ramah in Canada community, we hold ourselves to the standards of Derech Eretz at all times. Together, we foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive community.
Camp Ramah in Canada recognizes the importance and value of a mutually supportive relationship between Camp and parents. The success of this relationship is best served when Camp and parents share a commitment to collaboration, open lines of communication, mutual respect, and when roles, responsibilities, and expectations are clearly defined. It is a further expectation that parents will address any concerns in a positive manner, and be respectful when speaking about Camp in front of children and members of our community.
Camp Ramah in Canada is committed to achieving an inclusive camp climate. It aims to support and honour the uniqueness of each individual and embrace diverse backgrounds, values, and Jewish Identities.
The Camp Ramah in Canada community includes campers and staff of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Ramah seeks to create a safe and welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ identified campers, staff and parents. We embrace the core Jewish belief that we are all created in the image of God (b’tzelem Elokim). We work to build sensitivity by avoiding assumptions in our language and programming and educating our staff. In so doing, our goal is to help each and every member of our community find their place in the Camp Ramah in Canada community.
In order to ensure a safe environment, we will not tolerate bullying or harassment of any kind. Please refer to our Brit HaMachaneh (community agreement). Furthermore, we are committed to listening to feedback and evaluating our practice on an ongoing basis to ensure that we are achieving our goal of creating a climate that is inclusive and respectful for all members of our camp.
