Jewish Life at Camp

At Camp Ramah in Canada, Judaism is not just an aspect of camp life – it’s the heartbeat of our community. Your child will immerse themselves in a vibrant, joyfully Jewish environment, where they will explore their Jewish connections thoughtfully and naturally throughout their stay. Our approach to Jewish education fosters spirituality, critical thinking, character development, and values-driven living.

As the camping arm of the Conservative Movement, we deeply commit to Jewish life, learning, and tradition.

Shabbat at Camp

For many Ramah alumni, Shabbat is the highlight of their camp experience. On Friday afternoons, the entire camp gathers in front of our beautiful lake, for Kabbalat Shabbat services filled with unparalleled ruach (spirit). As the sun sets and Shabbat melodies fill the air, campers experience a profound sense of peace and connection to their community and tradition.

Saturday mornings are dedicated to traditional Shabbat services, including lively prayers and Torah readings. Campers also enjoy time for sports, swimming, reading, or relaxing with friends. We conclude Shabbat with Havdallah, a special moment of unity under the starry sky, where campers and staff sing together, marking the transition from Shabbat.

Daily Prayers (Tefillah)

Our approach to daily prayers (tefillah) is both innovative and engaging. Each morning, every edah (age group) begins their day with an age-appropriate Shacharit. Through creative programming, our staff lead tefillah in fun and interactive ways. We will accommodate and make your child feel comfortable with tefillah no matter their background.

Jewish Identity

Numerous studies show that a Ramah camp experience significantly strengthens a child’s Jewish identity, creating a lasting connection to Jewish tradition. From our young counselors, who exemplify Jewish values through their actions, to daily Judaic learning with exceptional educators, every moment at camp is designed to nurture and celebrate Jewish identity. We foster a culture of kindness and respect, recognizing “Jewish teachable moments” throughout the day.

A Love of Israel

Our camp hosts a large mishlachat (Israeli staff delegation). Campers engage with Israeli culture through dynamic programs led by these shlichim (Israeli staff). Campers learn about Israeli history, people, politics, and culture, with Israeli music enriching the camp experience. Hebrew language is infused into our daily life at camp. Many campers also participate in Ramah Seminar, a six-week trip to Israel before returning as counselors.
